Comic Review: Fire and Stone - Aliens vs Predator
I love it when library holds come through quickly! I could go straight in and pick up part three of the Fire and Stone series, while part four should arrive tomorrow. If you haven’t already, please take a moment to check Part 1, Prometheus and Part 2, Aliens, found within the blog section of this site. Of course, this is a continuation of those two stories, and though the plots are a bit messy, I am enjoying the artwork. Let's see if this continues into this tale.

Review
Okay, I’ve got to be clear early on that the plot has crashed hard. They lost their vision entirely in this issue and have just started throwing things into the mix to see what would stick. At least, that’s how it reads to me.
AVP: Fire and Stone continues the story started in Prometheus. Elden, the synthetic droid injected with the black goo, has completely mutated and is on a journey to work out his place and role in the universe, attempting to hunt down the man who infected him. This leads us back to the Geryon ship, now heading back to Earth. The Predators finally show up during this period, and the fighting starts for real. We have a three-way title fight of Predators vs Aliens vs Humans, and as you can imagine, we are left reading pages of gory scenes. Once again, I feel the gore is a bit overdone. Sometimes, less is more. Remember when it was mainly the dread feeling of cosmic horror?
A highlight for me once again is the artwork. Though the gore scenes are overused in the tale, they are beautifully brought to life by Ariel Olivetti. And even Elden looks like a creature that could exist in a truly messed up world. The Lowlight of the tale is Elden. I'm bored of him struggling to find himself and his identity; get over yourself; you are not that important. I'm also really bored of Francis, who should have been killed off sooner.
Overall, read for the artwork and try not to get wrapped up in the dubious plot of the comic. Only one volume left to go.
