Comic Review // DC Batman vs Dark Horse Aliens Volume 2

Yesterday, we delved into the joyous adventures of Batman vs. Aliens; we are back again, this time with volume 2. At 160 pages, it was a quick read, but before the review, here is the official comic book write-up.

Fluff: Featuring the deadly creatures from the Alien movie franchise, BATMAN/ALIENS TWO is an intense science fiction thriller that pits the universe's most lethal creatures against the world's greatest hero. When an unwitting construction crew accidentally uncovers an ancient sealed vault, Batman must defend Gotham City against a savage Alien killing spree. But as the Darknight Detective pursues his relentless quarry, he soon discovers a shocking government conspiracy. He is on a suicide mission against Alien-hybrid versions of the Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, Two-Face, and the Joker.

Review

I don't know what to say, so I will begin at the beginning. This time, we have left South America's jungles and headed back to Gotham. As a work crew digs up land for renovation, they discover a crashed Alien ship. When inside (because, of course, that is always the first thing you do), they awaken a sleeping xenomorph, which soon starts to rack up an impressive kill tally. It is up to Bats to save the day, but while this is happening, a secretive Black Ops group has moved in and captured Batman and a Xenomorph! As Batman mounts an escape attempt, he discovers his captors have been combining xenomorph DNA with hardened criminals to produce super-soldiers! What could go wrong?

The comic is a story of two halves. The first was a quirky and exciting piece, making for a good starting point for an adventure. Sadly, the second half destroyed all that work. The idea that Gotham Scientists can blend xenomorph DNA with some of the most horrific villains to create a suicide squad is just too far-fetched and ruined the entire story for me.
